One aspect of living in a country other than your own is that you enjoy a detachment from your home country’s news cycle. The biased views of the competing news outlets offering wildly different takes on the same issues can grind you down and leave you feeling depressed about the state of politics and the country as a whole.
When you live abroad you don’t see any of this. Not really. A watered down version may reach you but you find that you just don’t care.
This feeling is so freeing. It takes an unexpectedly large load off of your shoulders. It allows you to focus on the things that you can control directly in your everyday life. To put energy into what is in front of you. This is a great luxury.
